Holidays with a Retail Working Husband/Father

Christmas, Easter & Thanksgiving are the Holidays that my husband has off.
He works very hard and typically loves his job.
He is in the grocery business.
Has been most of his life. Started there as a bagboy when he was 16.
Took time off to serve a mission.
Went back after his mission.
Left for a few years to learn that he loves this line of work.
He's able to interact with the customers and he's always on the move.
He's been in management for a WHILE now.
Which means LONG days/nights/& more days.
Many people ask if we ever see him.
YES, we see him. No it's not a typical schedule.
It's one that we've had to adapt to.
He gets 2 days off each week like most everyone else.
They are just NEVER 2 days in a row unless we are doing something and that's
how he schedules himself. If he wants Saturday off then he HAS to work Sunday. So, when he's in control of his schedule, he schedules himself for Saturday, so that he can have Sunday off.
Lately, he has NO control of his schedule, which has been hard to adjust to.
Well let's get back to Holidays with retail.
Guess what--All "you people" LOVE to do something when you get together
for your holiday parties. That is EAT!!! & EAT!!! & EAT!!!
So for the Grocer---They are very busy!
So when others are getting together for these
--What I call working holidays--
We are meeting Patrick for dinner.
NO get togethers. No fireworks, barbeques, etc.
I will go to my families some if I get the itch to do something.
I've learned not to feel guilty that we are having fun while he works.
WHY????
Well, He chose his career---and there's nothing I can do to change it really.
I do compain too (every once in awhile) that he's never there.
This year--I'm without a car for another week so I cannot escape to anywhere.
And 4th of JULY is on a SUNDAY!!!
So we will be at church and we will not celebrate with fun stuff.
I don't really have a dinner planned. I KNOW SAD AGAIN!!!
I've given up on Cooking. I've got to get back into that.
Well----We will have our Dessert.
It's my favorite. A Trifle with Blackberries, Strawberries, & raspberries!!!
Devils Food cake and Choclate pudding. So simple yet SO DELICIOUS!!!
The best. So while we will have no dinner we will eat dessert.
I'll even save some for my hard working husband.
:)
